DCT: Layman, only religion gives people a reason to be moral all the time (even when no one is looking) Otherwise morality is just a bunch of arbitrary rules.
Classic DCT: God is required as a meaphysical foundatin for morality: An act is right if and only if it's in accord with God's commands

"If God does not exist, then everything is permitted"

Idea:society needs a moral law giver
Conscience=being concious of what others may think of you.

What motivates people to be moral?

Critisisms: How do we know what God commands? which book do we look to? Old Testament, Koran, etc....
How do you know there's a God? (How do you know there's not a God)

Religion has a history of inspiring evil as well as good.
Cynical-the only reason to be moral is because it's in your self interest
Is forgiveness a license for immorality?

Euthyphro problem: Does God command things because they are right or are things right simply because God commands them?

ex-God commands against promiscuous sex because of various health and emotional reasons.Well what makes promiscuous sex wrong is not the terrible consiquences, but it's wrong because he says it's wrong.
