Kant: : Universal Law Test
-can you imagine a world where everyone acts
on your principle?
-If no, this is a contradiction in
concept-immoral.
-Morality is Universal, applies to everyone
equally.
In Concept: lying, promise. Demonstrates
negative duties.
Rugged Individualist: When I have nothing to
gain I will not help others.
-Could you rationally want to live in such a
world? (“Will” such a world to be.)
Contradiction in Will:
Objections:
1. Vagueness problem - seems possible to
formulate your maxim (principle) to get any
act to turn out o.k.
Humanity Test
Treat others always as end. Never merely as
means.
Am I using people, treating them as “things”
vs. persons?
Am I considering the interests and desires
