Notes to add to the handout given in class:
Add to Hypothetical Imperatives: they don¡¦t apply if you don¡¦t have the relevant desire. Don¡¦t apply to you if moral action reason is winning.

Add to Universal law formulation: Ask yourself two questions. Can I imagine a world where everyone did it? (Followed the principal I¡¦m acting on) Test your intuition.
Nothing to do with happiness or consequences ¡V you are thinking of the act itself.
Kant says if everyone stole there would be no concept of property so stealing would be impossible. If everyone murdered no one would be left alive. So murdering would be impossible. If everyone broke promises, no one would accept promises ¡V they would be meaningless.

If you do something trying to be helpful and it turned out wrong ¡V you wouldn¡¦t necessarily be wrong. Reason will give you one answer to moral questions. Reason produces one result in moral deliberation decision ¡V making conscientious Nazis are impossible if the Nazis really think.

Criticism: Kant under estimates the influence of culture on moral belief.
