Deontology

Deon- rule

Morality is a matter of following a set of exceptionless rules which describe rights and responsibilities. (Duties)

Motive is important to deontology
Morality=doing your duty because its your duty.

Main motive must be duty (because its right)

Having a good will, right motive and good intentions. A good will is the thing which is intrinsically good.
Possible other intrinsic goods
-happiness (bad if you get happiness out of someone else's suffering) evil people don't deserve happiness
-intelligence (evil genius)
-wit/humor (using it to degrade others)

Morality is intuited (discovered) through pure reason.

Shopkeeper example-3 motives for honesty direct.
1-Narural inclination-he's a nice guy likes being honest.
2-Indirect inclination-wants to avoid trouble with the law (or) lost business.
3-Duty-"it's wrong to cheat customers"

1 and 2 are both desire and selfish. Egoism is true with regard to desire. Morality is motivated by reason.

3 is morally praise worthy
