Deon-rule
Morality is a matter of following a set of exceptionless rules which describe rights and responsibilities(Duties)

Motive is important in deontology.
Morality-doing your duty because it's your duty.
Your main motive must be duty because it's right.

Kant:
Having a good will
Having a right motive or good intuitions
A good is the thing which is intrinsically good.

Kant believes that evil people don't deserve happiness

Possible other intrinsic goods
-happiness
-intelligence (evil genius)
-wit/humor
Kant said suicide is wrong.

Morality is intuited(discovered)through pure reason.

Ex:Hanging of the innocent man
Kant will not have anything to do with it.

Ex:The fat man stuck in a cave
Kant will say that you can't kill an innocent man to save yourself.

Ex:The shopkeeper:
3 motives of honesty
1. natural or direct inclination-he's a nice guy and likes being honest
2. Indirect inclination-wants to avoid trouble with the law/lost business

These 2 are desire. Kant said they are both selfish motives
Egoism is true with regard to desire. Morality is motivated by.

3. Acts from Duty-Its wrong to cheat customers
Kant believes that this third one is worthy of moral praise.
