On Thursday we continued to talk about criticisms to utilitarianism. so far we have 5 different criticisms. The first is "too demanding" which is said to require to much self sacrifice. The second criticism is "too permissive" which allows immoral acts to be done for the greater good. For example could you kill one single person if it meant you would be saving 5. The third criticism says that utilitarianism doesn't tell us how to decide between smaller good for greater number of people, or greater good for smaller number of people. This criticism shows that happiness is not distributed well. The fourth criticism is that its too difficult to calculate consequences. The last is that people just use hedonistic calculus to rationalize decisions.
