Does Morality Need Religion?

Stephen Layman- Yes.
- Atheists have no satisfactory answer to the question "why be moral?"
- Only theists have a reason to be moral all the time because of fear of punishment from God, and the desire to please Him.

John Arthur- No
- Morality is "social". Part of being social animals is thinking in terms of "what would others say if I do x"
- Atheists: Other people determine what you think about yourself.
- Theists: Take into account what other people think of them but live for God and the approval of Him. (WWJD?)
- The theist just adds one more to the community of evaluators.
