In the first class we discussed emotivism. Emotivism holds that there are no moral truths, that moral statements are just one person's expression of their particular subjective preferences. But aren't these subjective preferences equal to morals? I have not been visited by a deity of any sort. Nor, have I achieved some supreme state of enlightenment on my own. Yet I have a sense of right and wrong. Furthermore, the fundamentals underlying this sense are fairly common in the world. So if I happen to share some basic values with 99% of the people I've met, why should I not regard those feelings as morals? Aren't they truths?
