Dear Tom: Thanks for mentioning your girlfriend. I think it's terrible that people said what they have about her. She must be strong and brave in ways to endure this.
I think you made a good point about the book not including more info. about how people with exceptional abilities factor into the social landscape according to E&Z and about the racism and discrimination experienced and endured by persons with exceptional abilities ( I use the phrase exceptional abilities as a positive phrase instead of disabled, I really dislike the negative connotations of this phrasing.) The reason I came up with for this is that E&Z are attempting to target more subtle forms of structural ineptness and they assumed that the discrimination and struggles of the "disabled" are more obvious and known and so E&Z didn't find the need to include this or didn't have enough sociological research info. to add regarding the "disabled". Of course the way that the "disabled" are discriminated against and oppressed by the structure of the system and thus in society is just as important and neccessary to expose and understand in all its subtleties and overtly, as any other form of racism. I'm surprised E&Z didn't include this as a form of racism.

Being disabled is considered by some to be another category of "minority" in our society. Many persons named by our society as "disabled" probably experience similar racism as people considered "minorities" by our society, or by the inconsiderate, disrespectful, or ignorant members of our society that is.
