Annette-- Oversensitive???? I would have to say definitely in this situation : )

One of the matters brought up in the book is how communication can be a barrier for kids from lower class cultures. All of us that read that paragraph and said "huh?" now have experienced for a matter of seconds what many of those kids go through all day at school, since it is taught from an upperclass culture.

In addition, I used the HH and Brothers' speech patterns (although not as dramatic as I could have made it because I wanted you all to be able to understand somewhat of my clarification) to clarify the text. From one class culture to another. Intimidating, ain't it. ( :

By the way, I think we should think about the label of "dumbing it down" just because it was in street slang. What an awful stereotype. Just because people frame something in street terms does not mean they are not intelligent, nor that their communication is unintelligent... something to think about....
