I think that Meorah was trying to be helpful and humorous at the same time.

I think that Jay MacLeod writes with all those big words because he know if the Hallway Hangers knew what he was writing about them, they'd kick his ass. This way Mr. MacLeod writes over their heads so they won't know what he's saying.
But the HH's may still kick his ass just because he's being hoity toity. I bet Slick says "hoity toity" all the time.
