I've been noting up the book like mad and I actually had to write a big question mark next to this paragraph. I feel really dumb up against something like this. So, if anyone'd care to explain, I'd really appreciate it just because this paragraph explained nothing to me:
(Early in the book, pp. 20)
"The lads' nonconformist cultural innovations, which ultimately contribute to the reproduction of the class structure, are often complex and contradictory. An understanding of these mechanisms of social reproduction requires an ethnographic approach based on a theory that postulates the relative autonomy [see what I mean?!] of the cultural sphere..."
