I grew up in a middle-class neighborhood, and both of my parents had an education and good jobs. We took great vacations and had money for lots of extras. All of my siblings have college degrees and two of them have their masters. They all make alot of money, though they are not completely satisfied with their jobs. They drop their children off at the daycare center for fifty hours a week, so they basically spend time with their kids two days a week. This type of life is what they consider successful. I on the other hand do not work or have a college degree. My family lives off of my partners income and I stay at home with my two children. We may not have much money (less than a forth of the income of my siblings families),but we have time to walk to the playground and read books together, I get to witness my children doing things for the first time, and I get to teach them about life and society instead of a daycare provider. To me, I am very rich and I feel sorry for the way my siblings life and families have turned out. They do not see it this way, they are always encouraging me to hurry up and finish school so I can go out and get a good job so my kids will be "better off", even though it would mean having someone else raise my children.
The reason my siblings do not think there is anything wrong with someone else raising their children is because as children we were told by our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles that to be successful we needed to go to college and get good jobs and make alot of money so we could buy alot of things. So, my siblings listen because that was all they knew. Leanne
