I think all of these theories are bull-poopoo. It seems to me that the Order Theory blames the person for the situation they are in and the Conflict Theory blames the system for the situation.
I recognize the fact that a lot of schools teach us about the most extremes so we can find some sort of middle ground but is has been my experience that there are a lot more colors out there besides black and white. I for one would have been lost as a child without my "Brick Red" crayon.
And what the heck are the authors trying to do here? All of these theories seem to be negative and they only get worse with the Deficiency and Structural Theories. Are there any Sociologists out there that have a positive outlook on society?
Are there any positive examples of societies?
I think I am going to reread the reading assignment again. I understand the theories but they all seem to center around the white man keeping everyone else down. That's not to say that they do not but that seems to be perpetuating another stereotype.
Now about this here Caste System. I know everyone should be treated as equals but who wouldn't want an untouchable to clean their toilets for them. If I had an untouchable friend, I would pay him extra to scoop my cat's litter box as well. It's not my fault he did all that sinnin' in his last life.
