I'd like to put out there some recent Contribution & Expenditure Report info on the Bobby Green and Kitty Piercy campaigns for Lane County Commissioner race. At 5pm today they were due and the numbers are OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! Bobby spent about $108,000.00 and Kitty $59,000.00. This is a SMALL local election - what's happening with our political system? As I understand it only took about $15,000 for Sorenson to get his seat. As a supporter of Kitty Piercy, I'd also like to point out that Bobby received a single $30,000.00 contribution from one individual, a John Jacqua (rumor has it he's affiliated with the UofO endowment fund and Nike)the rest was mostly business contributions. Kitty's contributions came from over 500 individual supporters and 3 labor unions. Who's representing the most citizens? (you can answer that yourself) What it takes to campaign for a local election is by no means accessible to the everyday citizen. Seeing such phenomenal figures in a local election only SCREAMS to me that CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM must happen on ALL LEVELS. I hope that the source of campaign funding for these two candidates will be critically assessed by voters when making a final decision - if they've not already voted.
