To combat the collective power of the super-rich, I propose a union with only one requirement: to be a member of the working class. I think it will be important to avoid all other distinctions or agendas. This can be the parent union, with sub-unions below it to address other issues, many of whom will likely be mutually exclusive. Maybe the PIRG's already established all over the US and Europe are a vehicle for this. The environmentalist's and the trade unions are always going to be at odds but we must not let that division between us keep us from the greater threat of capitals power to control our lives and the environment. Ten years ago I was anti-union, now I can see no other way to fight to fight the super-rich, who rely on the working class to maintain their wealth. They divide us and therefore conquer us. The coming revolution WILL take tremendous sacrifices, ones that we have been conditioned to reject utterly out of hand because they don't benefit ourselves. The power of the WTO protest in Seattle was in the joining of formerly opposed groups. Let's come together first and decide on the 'small picture' issues later!
