1. When I was 9 or 10, a friend and I stole matches and cigarettes from my grandmother.

2. I affected my self identity in that I was afraid and saddened that my grandmother would trust me less, and that my friends mother wouldn't think of me as "a good girl" anymore.

3. My friends mother blamed it on me. My mother and grandmother blamed it on my friend and her "bad influence" on me. So actually neither of us got in much trouble.

4. It must have decreased my likely hood to behave in a deviant manner, because honestly this is the most exciting story I could think of to write about. (makes me want to go out and be deviant :)

5. I suppose if I had really been made to feel bad, or told that I was deviant. I might have been more likely to believe that and thus continued more deviant behavior. I think it is important for adults to make it clear to children which behaviors are clearly wrong, while making it clear that the child isn't wrong. There is a big difference! OR maybe I was made to believe I was deviant, and wanted to rid myself of that label. Thus working hard for approval and good standing again.
