Option 1 - Role Enforcement

A.)Internalization: The specific role I chose to write about is being a Mother. I think the methods of social control that encourage me to fulfill this role are through family & peers, as well as, of course, those that are all around us. First of all, coming into this world as a girl had an influence. I've been treated as a girl my whole life, of course, & therefore, also wanting to follow the steps of my mother and sisters. I am much younger than my siblings, so I watched them all become mothers before me. This role as a mother really made an impact on me in my teen years. I always took care of my niece, which gave me a mother-type role. Then one day, I became pregnant. I would have to follow these steps of being a mother & as well learning to adjust to the full mother figure quick. You see mother's everyday. Bonding with their children, teaching them about life, discipline & love...in stores, schools, malls, T.V. etc. Therefore, I learned how I ought to be a mother in the view of society as well. Someone who guides a child in this world & love them with everything. Then when my child was born, it came so smoothly to me. I needed to be a good mother to my child & show society I was a good mother as well.
B.) Social Rewards for obeying norms: The social rewards I receive all of the time are compliments of what a good a mother I am. It shows in our love as well as she is polite, clean, well dressed & having smiles on her face mostly all of the time. This view is important I think from others. Besides, who would want to be called a "Bad Mom". That is a major insult to any mother. Who would want people thinking you neglect your child & end up having your kids taken away? Being a mother is absolutely fulfilling and wonderful. It's a feeling that could never be replaced. Now I have the chance to teach my daughter how to fit into society, and so the story goes on...
C.) Sanctions or threat of sanctions for disobeying norms: If I were to violate the norms of being a mom, it is somewhat discussed in "B" above. Having the name of "Bad Mom" or people calling CSD on you, etc. Hey, even people abuse their children & get punished by imprisonment. Look at those strange people that lock their children in closets, attics, or even send them to school with bruises all over their back, & dressed in weeks of dirty laundry. Not being a good parent has a very great impact on a child in today's society. If bad parenting- they might end up growing up & feel left out, being hateful, may even kill or harm people in horrible ways. May become obese or anorexic due to people or parents putting them down or causing a child to have depression. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my child to be a J. Dahmer.
