The role I chose is being a mother. I am fairly new at it.
2. Try to identify ALL of the specific "methods of social control" that encourage you to fulfill the norms governing that role, for each of the following general types of control:
First off I am considered too young to be a mother. I was twenty when I first had my son. I am also single. This is looked at as wrong and the parents should be married. When I found out I was pregnant that is one of the major things I had to consider, doing it alone. I also work outside the home so am not following the traditional norm. I do not abuse my child. More out of common sense than following a norm. If I did, legal action would be taken and I would be shunned by others and labeled. I follow the norm that the mothers are the primary care giver. I always am the one changing, bathing, and feeding him. When dads are seen taking care of the children others always say something. We are encourage to believe that we should follow the norms, because if we don't we are singled out and labeled or even can be discriminated against. If you follow the norms then you are rewarded. My biggest rewards are when other mothers compliment me. People may compliment my sons behavior and say I must be a wonderful mother. Also when you follow the norms you can get more help from places such as government of housing places. If you violate the norms you are labeled and may even be discriminated against. Sometimes no one will help you for going against the norms.
