2. a. My family always encouraged me to “do my best” in school. This included following the rules. Economic reward also encouraged following the norms. If you get good grades, you can go to a good college. If you go to a good college, you will get a good job.

b. Some rewards for obeying these norms are: family approval, acquaintances approval, stifling my fear of what if I wasn’t in school, teachers’ approval (for not being a disruptive student), and the promise of a better job.

c. Violating the norms can lead to all sorts of sanctions. Cheating can lead to failure. So can being negligent in one’s studies. Failure can be costly as far as retaking courses or being labeled a dropout. Other possible sanctions are disapproval of peers, parents, teachers, and society.
