1. An aspect of US culture would be to work. People believe that when one works, their life will eventually be better with more options open to them. They will be able to support their families, provide food on the table, have health insurance, and for most, it makes them feel as if they are accomplishing something in life. A materialist view would be one works to buy the better things in life. For example, the flashy car, big house, nice clothes as well as being able to enjoy the extras in life. These would include things such as skiing, travel, golf, expensive dining, pedicures, the Spa Club, etc.

2. I think that the idealist approach offers the best explanation. I think this because work is something that is believed by people to make it. Such as supporting yourself, as well as family, food & shelter, respect, etc. It's the way of life, something we believe in.
