Dear Earline: I can't hardly believe you actually went to a market and tried to buy just one grape. This is so funny, the whole progression of events that happened. I just kept laughing. I wish I'd been there. I'm sure I would have certainly found the humor in it. It would definitely be highly amusing to me to find out that you intended to buy just one grape. I know if I'd been there I would have been talking to the others in line questioning or possibly commenting to others about why you'd cut in line and why you were buying just one grape. I probably would have let you go ahead off me since you had such a small purchase. People often will let a person with a really small item go ahead of them in line if they have a bigger purchase.
I can't get over this. I'm still laughing. It's just such a funny, absurd thing to do. I liked the way you handled yourself and am glad you were able to go through with it. I may have become ticked off and annoyed by your cutting in line, and by the delayed time it took for you to be able to make your small purchase, especially after the humor of it all wore off, and especially if
I was trying to get somewhere in a hurry. I don't think people ought to cut in line. If people are going to cut in line, why bother having a line? We could all just crowd around the cashier and push eachother to the sides to be the one to get to the cashier first and get rung up first! As for your purchase, buying one grape, I see nothing wrong with this purchase for anyone, but it is odd and does seem to have no rhyme or reason at worst and very funny at best. I guess this type of purchase does put a cashier in a pickle though!
I was interested by how society related to you. Society does have rules for good reasons often. I think you provided an opportunity for society to vent and to exercise good humor!! Some of those people who you cut in front of in line to buy your one grape, probably had a good laugh later in the day, when they thought of the event and some are still wondering which class had you do this assignment and are wanting to enroll. This assignment possibly elicits the mischievous and playful in us all. No harm, no foul. We need to be serious and respectful of eachother as well as we need to lighten up sometimes, reasonably so, and just laugh with eachother.
