The folkway I violated was that I decided to wear my nametag from my 2nd job to my first job. I work at both hospitals in the area in the ER. My job is exactly the same at both places, and my nametags reflect that.
I hadn't gotten in the door about 50 ft when the first person I saw was my assistant manager. In a joking way he reminded me where I was at the moment. I told him that I forgot my nametag at home and this one was in my vehicle. He then got a funny look on his face and suggested that I leave my real nametag in my locker so I wouldn't forget it in the future. I left the tag on and was joked at by other people in the department. A little while later the assistant manager came out of his office, saw the tag still on and informed me to either take it off, or go home for the shift. Normally he is really easygoing, but for some reason this set him off. I then explained my reason for the change in tags, and he was ok with that. Up until that time I was really beginning to have fun with the switch. I did understand his reaction I guess the folkway I violated was the other day I decided to wear my nametag from my, with the competition that takes place with the two hospitals in the area and Peacehealths recent decision to move to Springfield.
What did I learn? While it might be fun to play games like that sometimes, you really have to be careful whom you do it around.
