I went shopping at the mall. I decided that I wasn't going to hold the door open for others. I waited until I saw a mom with a toddler and a couple of bags. I then walked ahead of her and walked through the door. I made sure the door closed behind me just before she could get through. After some adjustments she was able to open the door and walk through. I did this a few more times with unsuspecting people.

I felt rude doing it and didn't no how the people would react. I was also worried that someone would take it the wrong way. When the first woman finally came through the door she looked at me and said I had no manners. I said, I didn't want the cold to get in. She just walked away very angry. The next few people said nasty comments.

I expected somewhat the reactions I got. But no where do you HAVE to open doors for others. I couldn't believe how many people were upset. I think that many folkways are almost looked at a a must. When you go against it people treat you horribly. You have to do the norms to be normal and most people want to be normal. Things function better when everyone helps out.
