October 26 at the Thurston VS Springfield civil war football game, I decided I was not going to stand for the National Anthem. I sat in my set while everyone around me stood up.

Describe you observation. How did you feel? How did others respond?
I didn't get the response that I thought I would, especially at a time like this. My husband tapped my shoulder and motioned me to stand and my sister just looked at me with a look of question. I felt embarrassed and wrong for not honoring the country and people this song was created for.

What insights into how norms function did you gain?
I did explain to my husband and sister why I did what I did during the game. Both of them said they were embarrassed for me. I think this shows that sometimes we are creatures of habit when we do some things and sometimes we need to do certain things to bring us together even for that moment. To show respect and honor for something makes us appreciate what we are so fortunate to have.
