A) Thew other day, I was at Valley River mall having lunch with my brother. I looked towards my left and saw a very familiar face walking out of a store with and arm full of shopping bags. I have seen this person many times as I would drive down 7th ave and chambers in Eugene. She is a young "homeless" woman that makes "everlasting flowers" all day asking for donations, etc... Seeing her at the mall really got me thinking, so my question is: You see these panhandlers on the streets claiming all different sorts of things, from disable vets to single homeless mother. How many of these people are truly in the situation they claim to be in??
B &C )Experiments would be a great research method. I would be interested in sorta "spying" on one of these peoples for a day, just to find out what they do with the charity/donations they get. I think it would be interesting to give a $20 bill to one, drive around the block and park across the street and just watch them. I guess it would be considered stalking, but I would follow them to see where they go and what they do with the money.
My older brother is 27 and was in the Navy for 5 years. Him and I were riding our bikes around town last summer and stopped to give this one guy the rest of our lunch in our backpack. The guys sign said "disabled homeless vet, please help" My brother, had being in the military questioned the man about his sign....the man was disabled, but it was obviously a disablilty that he had had all of his life, and the military would not allow you to enlist in the service if your fingers were half the size of what they should be as this mans were (the guys fingers were complete, they hadn't been cut off, they had fingernails on them.) The guy didn't accept our lunches and just walked away without his sign. After that, I have always been interested in these people that beg at the corners of streets. I would love to be involved in experiments or something to find out more about these people
