Your question is interesting because I feel sometimes my son has too much homework. After extra-curricular activities (football practice) and dinner, he spends the rest of the evening working on homework. He's only in 5th grade. I feel he needs to spend more quality family time. Another way to research homework being too over tasking would be experiment or observation. Watching a group of children with minimal amounts of homework vs. children with massive amounts of homework and see if the result's affect both groups differently. Are the children who are working many hours on homework doing better in school than students who are spending lesser amounts of time doing homework and spending more time with their families? I think my son would love spending more time with the family than pouring over his studies. He would be more apt to learn more because of less burn-out. Just a thought...
