Local Affiliations

Our Association shares OEA/NEA affiliation with several Lane County public school teachers unions: Eugene Education Association (EEA), Springfield Education Association (SEA). These unions cooperate in the Three Rivers UniServ Council. Our Association is an associate member of the Lane County Labor Council (as is the EEA; we have associate status since OEA & NEA are not affiliated with the AFL-CIO). Our Association shares a close working relationship with the LCC classified staff union, the LCC Employees Federation (LCCEF), which is affiliated with the AFT nationally

State Affiliations

Members of the LCCEA are also members of the Oregon Education Association (OEA), a state-wide organization of teachers and education support staff, 38,000 strong. One community college representative serves on the Executive Board of the OEA. All community college associations affiliated with the OEA are: serviced by Community College UniServ staff represented on the Community College Uniserv Council which facilitates state-wide cooperation among local associations and provides direction for Uniserv staff. There are OEA liaisons with key state-wide community college bodies: Oregon State Board of Education Office of Community College Services (OCCS) in the Oregon Department of Education Oregon Community College Association (OCCA) an organization of community college presidents and local Boards of Education. OEA members are provided a number of other OEA member benefits.

 

National Affiliations

Through the LCCEA's affiliation with the OEA, LCCEA members are also members of the National Education Association (NEA), 2.2 million strong. NEA membership provides a number of NEA member benefits, as well as to the OEA, and the LCCEA. Our Community College UniServ Council belongs to the National Council For Higher Education, the higher education caucus within the NEA, and a strong advocate for higher education members. Merger talks are proceeding with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) the other main teachers union, which is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. If successful, merger talks are likely with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). In recent years, some AAUP affiliates have become collective bargaining organizations.
