At the February meeting the Board of Education refused to provide and the

College Administration failed to support the normal salary step advancement

for faculty for 2000/01. This is an inequitable and regressive action to

save money against a projected deficit next year. Only those faculty not at

the top step will be affected. Those at the lowest steps will suffer the

most. This action is taken in spite of ample evidence that, overall, step

advancement is cost neutral and that the College has many times the amount

of money from last year's unexpected surplus to honor the agreement from

last spring to provide steps. This action is an especially inappropriate way

to respond to the projected crisis in light of the many projections of

crises in recent years that failed to materialize.

I cannot and will not continue to serve on college-wide committees while the

attitude towards faculty expressed by this action pervades the College

Administration. I resign from the Strategic Learning Initiative Leadership

Team, the Vanguard Learning College Leadership Team, the Technology Project

team of the Vanguard College and the chair of the Instructional Technology

Infrastructure project.
