Subject: Re: Moodle support conversation notes

I just read the moodleadmin thread that was spawned from my email (below).

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my email notes but I was very clear with Sonya on the phone that the offer to have the IT department take responsibility for Moodle support was for summer term only.  I think everyone got that.  My offer was intended exclusively to buy time to make an informed choice about outsourcing support.  We will do whatever our limited resources allow for summer term faculty support.  My expectation is that we will do "just enough" to get the faculty through summer courses.  We really have no capacity, knowledge or skill to do any more than that.

In no way did I mean to imply that IT was agreeing to an expanded role in faculty support beyond summer term.

Just trying to be clear.

Enjoy,
Stephen

Folks,

I thought I would try to capture the main points of the phone conference call today.  Included in the call were Sonya, Todd, Kyle, David and me.

1.  The IT department will take responsibility for Moodle support for summer term.
We believe that we can do this partly because there is a lighter load of online instructors (24) during summer and partly because most of the instructors are experienced Moodle users (see list at the end of this email).  Michael, David, Todd and the Help Desk can provide technical support for faculty teaching with Moodle.  The IT department cannot do course development or provide pedagogical advice.

We are doing this to buy time for item #3.

2.  Email and Moodle forum
David will coordinate the use of online@lanecc.edu and moodleadmin@lanecc.edu for summer term with Meredith.  They will communicate list management to others as needed.  Todd, David and Michael will monitor the Moodle forum and provide assistance as needed.

3.  David and Meredith will complete research and provide a recommendation
By July 31 we will have a recommendation for faculty support and administrative support for the future.  David is getting copies of the contracts from Remote Learner.  Stephen will assist with contract review and pricing options.

I think these are the main points.  If someone on the call remembers something significant that I left out, please share with the group.

Enjoy,
Stephen
