OK, Joe. Here are the CRNs. And are there written instructions?

The two CRNs are

20718 FN 225 Nutrition and
21277 FN 225 Nutrition

Beth,
No problem. You can't actuall delete a Moodle course. You can delete and restore the wrong information to an empty shell, but the shell will remain. I'm guessing you simply assigned the course shells to your old naylore account. Let me know which course names and CRN's you lost and I'll reassignm them to you.

Hi

That was definitely part of my my problem. Another part is that I found Firefox made it much more clear what was happening with the download and upload process. Now I have a new problem. I DELETED the shells David created for my two FN 225 courses. I remembered Joe saying on the video an instruction about restoring and either first deleting or NOT deleting the old ourse. Well, I chose wrong. I will email David. I don't see written instructions about it. Are there written instructions someplace? It's easy to do correctly, but it's perhaps easier to do incorrectlt and i'd like something written in front of me.

Thanks,

Beth

You need to be uploading the file that has the .zip extension NOT the folder the MAC unzipped for you.

Let me know how it goes,

Hi

I think that's what 'm doing and I can't see why it's not working. When I select the backup data on I downloaded to my computer it wants me to go to the next level as you can see on the attached screenshot. I just downloaded Firefox as I was usinig Safari and the sanme thing happened. Could this have anything to do with me having the course I downloaded from still in the Previous terms area?

Uploading files and folders are the same. In your fall Mooldle course click on 'Restore' (left side). On the next screen choose 'Upload a File'. Then proceed to follow the directions in the movie. If this is not where you are getting stuck, give me a call and we'll figure it out. Or we can meet early next week on campus if you're there.

Hi

That movie worked. I heard Joe's voice right away but I didn't see the screen shots Joe was referring to until about a fourth of the way through. It took that long to finish completely loading. It was really fun to hear Joe's voice and see what he was doing. I watched it twice and I watched it again after re-starting and it always did the same thing.

But I wasn't completely successful. I backed up to my computer just fine and I went to my course in the new Moodle. But for some reason when I went to upload, I couldn't do it. My computer wanted a file and what I downloaded was a folder. Is my browser set wrong or I am I missing somethimng else?

Thanks for your help.

Try this

Go to: http://teach.lanecc.edu/moodle/Fall2006_flash

then click on the first link that says click me.

Also I believe the Quicktime movie (the very first file you tried to view) was there and working, it is just that it is 117M and takes several minutes to download, the file above is much smaller and loads faster.

Hope this gets you what you need, if not let me know,

Beth, See if you can view this movie. There are several steps between 'Restore' and being finished. Let me know if you cannot get the movie to play.

Hi David or

I'm not sure who to ask this question.

I got the instructions you posted, but I seem to be unclear on the final step and the movie wouldn't play for me. I just saw the title slide. I'm using a new iMac.

I backed up, downloaded and then uploaded the entire folder into my files. Then I clicked on the Restore button on the Administration column. What's supposed to happen next? The one I'm fiddled with is FN 230 (CRN 20723).

Dear faculty,

The Fall 2006 instance of Moodle is now ready at <http://moodle.lanecc.edu/fall2006>. After you log in with your L-# and PIN, you should see a list of the courses that are assigned to you in Banner. As I mentioned earlier, the courses as they are don't have any content, and if you already have a course developed in an earlier instance of Moodle, you can replace the course 'shell' with your backed-up course. For more information on how to do that, see the various documentation at <http://teach.lanecc.edu/moodle> (there's also a video there that addresses this topic), or send email to online@lanecc.edu.

A couple of caveats and things to note:

- When you log in, use only the first six characters of your ExpressLane PIN. If you are having difficulty logging in, call the Help Desk for assistance. If they can't help you get logged in, they will refer the matter to me, and I can make sure that your account is properly set up. Please give them your name and L-# when you talk to them.

- In some cases, it's possible that the list of courses may be incomplete. If this happens, it's most likely because the process for assigning your L-# to that course in Banner has not been completed for some reason. If that happens, please send email to moodleadmin@lanecc.edu with information about you and the course (your L-#, and the CRN and if possible the course number of the course). Resolving the problem may in some cases require you (or us) to check with the person responsible for submitting course requests in your department.

- Version: for various reasons, we have moved to Moodle 1.6; Moodle 1.5 is the version we used for Summer 2006. If you don't see a feature that you are used to, please send email to online@lanecc.edu to ask about it.

After you log in, you may want to edit your profile (just click on your name where it says Your are logged in as... in the upper right-hand corner, and then click the Edit profile tab). Here's why:

- In some cases, we may not have been able to get your email address, either because you don't have one entered in Banner, or because it didn't make it into our data stream due to the vagaries of the import process. In these cases, we've set a fake address (your L-number@emailnotset.lanecc.edu).

- The City and Description fields are set to stock values, mostly for privacy considerations. You are welcome to change these fields however you like.

- In some cases, the Country field may not be set correctly.

If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to contact us. For questions about using Moodle (general usage, features, and so forth), please email online@lanecc.edu. For problems logging in, please call the Help Desk at Ext. 4444. For problems arising with the server (including classes that are not listed, an inability to edit your courses, or students not showing up in your class lists), please email moodleadmin@lanecc.edu.

One last note: the transition to Moodle has been a major project (actually, it still IS a major project), resting on some very hard work by a number of different people. You--the instructors who are using it--are an important part of that team. We value your feedback and your input, and view this term as being the start of implementing the new site, not the end. (Let me also reiterate that the appearance of the site will change as we get closer to the start of the school year. Among other things, we will add a link to a new FAQ for students, which addresses some of the most common problems that students tend to have. We are in the process of writing that document and will link to it as soon as it's ready.)

Beyond that, however, if you have any thoughts or suggestions about improving the site and how it works, we encourage you to contact us.

Here's to a smooth Fall term!
