Dear Joe,
The attached message is typical of my email--I am getting a lot of mail from students who say they cannot log in to their groups. I have never taught from Moodle completely and I thought that I did pretty well setting it up. I made separate groups using "Forum" and sent all of the students emails telling them which groups they would be in. I asked them to upload their papers and comment on each other's drafts in their group sections only. Then they would revise the drafts and send the final to me through the assignment prompt.

I even got a phone call Saturday evening at home from a student who insisted that no one was posting and that it was impossible. I worried that she was right and simply told her not to worry about posting drafts for peer review--that I would not dock her points. I sent an email to everyone telling them not to worry about it for this first assignment --just to post the final draft to me by July 7. At the end of the call, however, it turned out that she didn't know how to browse for a WORD doc. from her own files and upload it.

Monday--the 3rd was the original date they were supposed to have posted papers for peer review. I looked last night and saw that one student had posted and her group has commented. Do you think that, in fact, there is no problem with it but that the students don't know how attachments work at all? Being new to Moodle myself, I may have jumped the gun, assumed that the students could not post when they, in fact, they had not posted because they were waiting until the due date, or because they didn't know how to use some computer functions.

I know you won't see this until Monday and that you might be on holiday until Wednesday, but could you look at my site when you get back, or give me suggestions, or could I come see you sometime--even toward the end of next week--and look at things?
Perhaps I should have talked about computers more and less about writing in the orientation. We did make sure that everyone logged on and I gave them the password "eggplant" so I know that is not the problem.
My home number is 334-6608 and my cell is 232-6955
Best, Rosanna
