Joe,

I've managed to restore the transcripts of your prior chat sessions from a backup of the database. Somehow or another, your entire chat got deleted, not just the previous sessions--that's why you couldn't see an icon for it, because all of the information about that particular chat, including its ID number and creation information (as well as the title), were removed. I converted the entries over from the old chat ID in the backup of the database and restored all the messages that I could fine (1,090 in total).

When I log in as administrator, I can see what I assume are all of the lost sessions (dating back to October 1), so your students should be able to see them as well.

David

Thanks for looking into this. I checked Sunday evening before the Sunday 8-9pm chat, and all the sessions since the course began were there. They had been there since our first chat on 10/1, and I haven't changed any of the settings. There was never a situation where the sessions disappeared; the icon disappeared off the Welcome page and took along all previous sessions, I believe. When I created the new chat link, I hoped the old sessions would still be there, but that was not the case. I've set the new retention time for 90 days, hopefully it won't happen again.

Joe,

Did you have active chat sessions available from before last Sunday (last week, for example)? How long did they get saved?

There's no clear reason for why this happened, and I haven't found any reports of any similar problems anywhere on moodle.org (if there were a bug in the Moodle application, I would expect to see similar reports).

Did you change any of the settings on that chat activity recently? Is there ANY chance that the retention period accidentally got set to 2 days? Or that the session got accidentally deleted from the page listing the sessions?

David
