Reid,

As the error message says, "this email address is already registered." That means that another user account within Moodle has that same email address set for their profile. It doesn't have any connection with whether you email is off-campus or not.

Here's why: when you backed up your course, you told it to include all user data. When you did that, user accounts for all of your students, as well as for yourself, were automatically re-created when the course was restored in the new Moodle instance. Since your old instructor account had your email address, you can't set your real profile in Winter 2007 to have the same address.

Here's how to avoid this in the future, per the instructions at <https://teach.lanecc.edu/moodle/backup_restore.html>: "On the next page, you will see two columns of data to include or not. All of your course materials are on the left and are already checked. All of you old student (user) data is on the right. You DO NOT want that information for a new class in a new term with new students. Therefore, click the NONE link at the top right column (All/None). Those boxes will be unchecked for you."

I have deleted your old instructor account. You should now be able to change your email.

On your name preference: our account creation scripts look for the presence of a preferred name field and use it if it's there; in your case, there was nothing there, so if you have a preferred name, you should talk to Human Resources to ask how to get it entered in Banner. I have changed it for now, but in the future, Moodle will be directly tied to what is in the name field in Banner, so what's in Banner will be what's in Moodle.

David

This error occured inside moodle when I tried to update my profile.
The instructor profile for my new L# says no email
This may be a problem for off campus part time faculty who do not use an
LCC email.
When I try to put in my email address I get:

Some information was missing or incorrect. Look below for details.

Last Name:

Reid,
I'm not sure what you are talking about. Your subject line says email.
It sounds like you may be talking about your Moodle account.

If it is Moodle, you login with your full L# (with the L) and the first
digits of your ExpressLane PIN number (the same you use for your
timecard.)

If your question is about your email address, you will have to contact
the Help Desk for that.

I have attempted to put my email address with my new L# profile and get
an already registered error.

I went back to the old login and changed my email address there, but the
already registered error still appears.

Also, my name is showing up as P Hart, reflecting my official name P
Reid Hart.
I would like it shown as Reid Hart. - Not an HR name change, just a
display preference.

Thanks, Reid
