This is unlikely to be a timeout issue. If the Moodle session had expired, she would have been thrown out to the login page. If it were a timeout on Lane's wireless access points, she would have been thrown back to the SSAN authentication page. A firewall timeout or DHCP address expiration on the ISP's end might conceivably cause this behavior if, when the student clicked submit, a new DHCP address had to be supplied by the ISP's server--in very unusual cases, it's possible that the lag time to get the address could have put the student past the time limit. And once that time limit is over, it doesn't look to me like you CAN start a quiz again (Continue) if you've already submitted the answers, can you? There is a Continue button on the screen where you see the right and wrong answers after you submit a quiz, but that just sends you back to the main Quiz screen (Continue in the sense of "go to the next page," not "continue taking this quiz"). It's hard for me to say what happened without knowing more about her browser and network configuration, and even then, as likely as not, it's a transient problem that couldn't be replicated (otherwise, I think we'd be hearing more about it). It would helpful to know what she means by "kicked off" (did she get sent to the login page, or just back to the screen where she began taking the quiz?), but I don't know that we could do that much with the information. One thing we might want to consider, as a general rule, is advising students to save their results periodically, without submitting. In this case, even if the student had been kicked out, her previous answers would have been saved. Having seen students lose literally hours of work on online tests before (due to computer crashes or network hiccups), I tend to think students should save their work obsessively if they have an opportunity to do so.
