Having a series of bad email addresses doesn't consistently cause a failure to send to everyone on the list.  At the moment, I'm trying to figure out what the pattern is.  In some cases, bad email addresses will cause an SMTP error message.  In that case, email to good addresses gets through.  In other cases, it generates the "Something went wrong while messaging selected users. Some may have received the email," in which case, nobody seems to get the email at all.

I have to say, I really love Moodle's robust mail handling.

I'll be looking into this further.
