Laura,

I've confirmed the scattershot nature of the discrepancies for the assignments in your course--I added myself and gave myself 100% scores on all assignments, and my calculated percentage came in at 97% or so, where your fake student is getting 103%. It's clear that there is a problem.

What I don't know is where the problem lies. As far as I know, your experience is unique--as far as I know, we haven't gotten any other reports of this problem. In my own course, I created a smaller group of assignments and did essentially what you did, but the scores anad percentages all compted correctly. There are some additional tests I want to run (including using a larger number of assignments in another course), and if I can verify that the problem wasn't simply an error on my part in setting up the Winter instance, I'll post a question on moodle.org.

For this term, clearly, you should use the points and percentages that were computed in Excel for assigning final grades.

One further question: was this course (and the one you used in Fall term) developed originally in Moodle, or converted from WebCT? Did you use it in Summer 2006 or before?

David

Hi David,

I have updated all of my student assignment scores so far for the term and wanted to do one last comparison between Moodle and Excel.

I've attached my analysis for your review. I'm concerned at the discrepancies, particularly since I give final grades with plus or minus.

The only category that is in question is "Assignments". The "Tests/Quizzes" and "Timings" category match perfectly both in Moodle and Excel.

Let me know what you think.

Laura
