Instructors,

Just a couple of notes before classes start tommorow.

First: enrollments. The process you used to back up and restore your courses may have inadvertantly included users from your old courses (due to a change in the Moodle application between Fall and Winter). If that has happened, you'll continue to see students from the old course enrolled in the new one. To deal with that, you can either selectively unenroll the students who you know are incorrectly enrolled, or you can simply unenroll everyone, and let the periodic enrollment scripts re-enroll them. The enrollment scirpts will run twice between now and 8:00 tomorrow: 11:00 tonight, and 5:00 AM tomorrow.

To unenroll students:

- Go into the course. (If this is a metacourse, you'll need to go into each child course.)
- In the Administration block, click "Students" (or whatever term you use for students, if you've changed that term).
- Select the students to unenroll in the left-hand list, and click the right-pointing arrow.

If you'd like me to unenroll your entire class for you, let me know, and I can do that.

Second: metacourses. Some of you have reported that your student participants disappeared after you created a metacourse and then restored a course backup to it. Unfortunately, restoring a metacourse wipes out the child courses of the metacourse, and hence the metacourse shows no student participants. All that's necessary is to re-add the child courses back in. Please let me know if that's happened to your courses, and I'll restore it ASAP. I've looked over the list of metacourses and at this point I don't see any that don't have any children, so I think we're all right--but I wanted you to be aware of the problem, in case an of you need to restore a backup course between now and the start of the term.

Finally: course visibility. Please remember to make your course visible for tomorrow if you haven't already. To do that:

- Go into the course.
- Click the Settings link in the Administration block.
- Make sure that the Availability menu (about halfway down the settings page) is set to "This course is available to students"

That's all for now. Obviously, let me know if you have any problems tomorrow.

David
