Folks,

I've made changes to Moodle's quiz module to do what (I think) we want it to do for secure testing.  Specifically, it now allows us to secure a test using an IP address OR a password.  Here's how it works:

- In the quiz settings, the instructor must enter "0.0.0.0" as the first IP address.  It MUST be first.
- The instructor must also set a password for the quiz.  This, too, is a must.  This guards against the instructor inadvertently leaving a quiz open to everyone by adding the special address above but forgetting to put in a password.  If there's no password, the special address doesn't have any effect.

When the student wants to take the quiz:
- If she attempts the quiz from a workstation designated in the secure list, she won't be prompted for a password.
- If she attempts the quiz from any other machine, she'll be prompted for the password.  If she successfully enters it, she's in.

That's it.  Although I'm a little tired, I believe I've tested all combinations of secure IP/no secure IP/password/no password settings to make sure that everything works the way we want it to.  I've gone ahead and put the modified quiz module in production for Winter.  You guys are welcome to verify by setting up your own quizzes and seeing if the logic works correctly.
