Project Background
Lane Community College was awarded an incentive grant from the Oregon Commu=
nity College and Workforce Development Agency (CCWD) to engage in a pilot p=
roject focused around continuous improvement of online classes. The project=
is based on grant awarded from the U.S. Department Fund for the Improvemen=
t of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) to Maryland Online (MOL), a statewide =
consortium of 19 community colleges and senior institutions. The model is d=
esigned to improve the quality of online courses by establishing a peer-rev=
iewed quality assurance certification process. =20
=20
The goal of our pilot project is to implement this faculty-centered peer re=
view process using the tools developed by MOL and determine how it may be u=
sed or adapted for our online courses. The scope of the project involves tr=
aining up to 50 Lane faculty who are currently teaching or have taught onli=
ne courses, certifying 20 Lane faculty members as peer course reviewers, an=
d reviewing five Lane online classes. The pilot project will be complete Ju=
ne 30, 2007. =20
