As for your question on how to set up the grade book with the 14 topic choices. Excluding students, as we talked about, is the only way other than creating the choices as one assignment, listing the choices within the assignment and having the list point to another file with directions or descriptions. This would not help you separate into categories for grading. Why don't you post this issue to the lane Moodle for Instructors forum? Perhaps another instructor has found a creative way to solve a similar problem.

Hi Meredith -
Yes, I do know to delete the existing course.... and I've actually done several backup's and restores this afternoon. Each with varying amounts of errors each time. Unfortunately when one thing gets repaired a different error seems to crop up. At this point, I'm restored back to having all grade items in uncatagorized, but with no duplicates at least. I think I'll leave it as is.... at least until tomorrow. :-) Linda

Hi Linda,
I tried calling you around 5p and then had to go to another meeting. Looks like you have an error on restored course. I did not know you were going to do the restore or I would have sent you to teach.lanecc.edu/moodle for directions. When you restore, you will be asked if you should override or delete the existing course, be sure to DELETE the existing course, otherwise you will end up with doubles of everything as you have now and will be unable to edit grades.

I am on my way home and will be available via phone between 8-9p if you need me. 687-2849

Hi Meredith -
hmmm, I have to say that this product seems pretty flaky. I did a backup and restore. Unfortunately it did not get rid of the extra items. However, at that point I was able to go to Managed Events and delete the extra copies. It didn't seem to matter which copy I choose, it did keep the one with the scores (fortunately!). Deleting managed events is what wouldn't work for me before I did the backup/restore.
But now I've tried to create new catagories, and add the items to each (Labs, Quizes, etc.). Seemed to allow this and said it saved it., but then going back to View or Edit grades, nothing but the uncatagoized catagory existed - and all the items were under it.
I'm going to try the backup/restore for this version... perhaps then the catagories will work again.

Dont' know why I missed this - To hide "uncategorized" go to Set preferences> Show hidden items, choose "no". then when you are ready to show the item, move it from Uncategorized to the proper category.

Now, onward to the 14 points problem!
