Meredith
Thanks so much. With you great instructions, Sharon has built me a new
backup with all the "User" things left out this time. I restored and
deleted the old one and all 80 students vanished last night. This morning,
as if by magic, the real 46 were back. A modern miracle to be sure.
THANKS

Now on to my next challenges. Kirsa has been out ill for two days now so I
have not been able to get setup on my email account. Particularly remote
access to it from of campus. Can you point me to a tutorial or help
document that can move that along. Hope all is going well with your new
classes.

Finally, I know that one of your areas of expertise is web content and I
want to create some flash-based demos to supplement some online assignments.
Kaaren has mentioned Camtasia which I have used in one of its early free
ware version. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks again for all your help

Jeff

Ah you were so close! See steps #4 and #5 below. The easiest thing to do is
go back and do another backup and restore. Your actual or "new" students for
spring term will show up in your course in approximately 4-6 hours or less,
depending when the last Banner transfer was done.

How to backup your course

1.Login to Moodle
2.Go to the class whose materials you want to copy (backup and restore) to a
new term
3.In your Administration Block, click Backup

4.On the next page, you will see two columns of data to include or not.

All of your course materials are on the left and are already checked.

All of you old student (user) data is on the right. You DO NOT want that
information for a new class in a new term with new students. Therefore,
click the NONE link at the top right column (All/None). Those boxes will be
unchecked for you.

5.Scroll to the bottom of that page.

Set Users: to None, and User Files: to No. Then, click Continue

6.Note the name of your backup file
The numbers 20061219-1330 mean year, month, day, time (military format)
December 19, 2006 at 1:30 pm

7.Scroll to the bottom and click Continue

8.Wait for your backup to complete, scroll to the bottom and click Continue

9. You will now see a "list" of your course backup files. To download that
file to your computer, click on its NAME (backup-zzz_zzz-2006_etc) and
choose to save it to your disk

10. The Backup process is complete and you now have a zip file on your
computer which contains your entire Moodle class.

Hi Meredith and associates

I was feeling so smart importing and building my BA101 moodle site. I
imported Sharon's Winter backup and was happily modifying it when I noticed
my enrollment had gone from 46 to 76... OOPS. I must have missed one of the
checkboxes to tell it what I didn't want transferred. Is there a simple
reset you can do for me or should I begin trying to delete the winter
students?

Thanks for your assistance

Jeff
