Anne,
We should talk about this. Your subject line says message function in moodle groups. There really is no such thing. From your student's email, it sounds like you are using wiki's. While wiki's are web documents for groups to use, there is no messaging function in that tool. I'd take a look, but need to know details, such as class CRN, week, assignment, etc.

Hello! So I have a question. You put me in a new group, but none of the people in the group will respond to me. I have no idea what's going on for our Wiki, and honestly, I don't think they do either. Cindi responded to me a while ago saying she had no idea what were doing, and no one will respond to me since. I don't want my grade to suffer because my groupmates are slacking. I don't mean to sound like I am complaining, but I was wondering if they are even getting my messages or can see me posting because they don't resond to my posts either. I don't want to assume they are ignoring me if it is a moodle problem. Thanks for the help!
