She sent the original to both of us.

The problem was a bit disquieting.  The title of many of her activities and resources (chats, assignments, etc.) had disappeared.  The problem is mentioned in some of the Moodle forums and in the Bug Tracker, but there's no indication of why it happened.  The suggested fix was to delete the relevant activity or resource, which is kind of counterproductive.  Fortuantely, I grabbed one of the nightly course backups, which had everything intact.  I'm going to file a new report to re-open the bug (it had been closed because nobody had replicated it recently).

Problems with backups are probably something that bears watching.
