Looks like the app he is using, Fugu, does not know how to update it's known_hosts file.
 
I had him open Fugu and attempt the login - he did not even get to the login screen - instead we saw a message that said remote host identification has changed.
 

I went into sftp- console in Fugu to see if I could find more info and found the following several lines down from the start of message:
 
"It is also possible that the RSA host key has just been changed.
 
The fingerprint for the RSA key sent by the remote host is 
10:7e:59:0b:50:dlice:0d:4d:59:29:4a:67:24:bb:11
 
Please contact your system administrator.
 
Add the correct host key in 
/Network/Servers/trantor/Volumes/Users/kovcholovskym/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message
 
Offending key is in
/Network/Servers/trantor/Volumes/Users/kovcholovskym/.ssh/known_hosts.
 
RSA host key for teach.lanecc.edu has changed and you have requested strict checking.
 
Host key verification failed.
Connection closed
 
sftp task with pid 251 ended
Normal exit"
 

Since the "offending file" was in the user profile that Dale had for him on Trantor, I sent all of the above to Dale and Dale deleted the known_hosts file completely.   Fugu connected to the website on Michel's mac at the office and on the mac in the helpdesk area after that.
 
There was still the issue of his mac at home - I'm not sure I was able to get Michel to understand why his mac at home wouldn't work when the one at the office would.   I made a copy of the above for Michel and showed him how to go to the console under sftp in Fugu and find the known_hosts file on his home mac.  He's not real confident about  configuring things on a system, so I don't know if he will try it or not.   Sent  him some links about classes on mac os in continuing ed and the local mac users group.

I've been working with Michel.  He said that whatever you did is now working for this SFTP access at Lane.  I have been able to login as him the entire time.  Can I ask what you did specifically so I can be "in the know".

Your user profile on the macintosh server was not sending the correct info to the remote host.  As a result you could not get to the login screen for your website.   The problem with the user profile has been corrected, so please try logging in to your website again, and let me know if you have any more problems.
