If I put half the students into one group, will the other half be in a separate group?  I am trying to get two groups who can't read each other's postings.  Perhaps I need two groups?  I'm sure this will work out somehow.  Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda, 
To split your class into groups, login,   
1. Go to Admin> Groups 
2. Type in the name of your 1st group next to  'Add new group', then click on Add new group 
3. Select (highlight) the group name by clicking on it 
4. From column 1 - People in course - Select the students you want in the group, choose 'Add selected to group' 
Will this accomplish what want?

David and Joe, I really don't want to split back into three sections.  At least one would be too small to get good discussioins going.  How do the groups work, anyway?  And are you sure I can't copy the class and then delete half the names from each?  Nobody seems to like that idea, although it worked with WebCT.  I hope the groups can solve the problem. Here is the response back from Joe (I thought he'd cc:d you).  I think it probably makes sense to talk to the webmasters (online@lanecc.edu) to see if you can divide the course up into groups in such a way that you can do what you need.  If not, it sounds like (from Joe's message) that we should go ahead and split your course back in to single CRNs as soon as possible, before they submit assignments. 
 
 
Webmasters: can you touch base with Linda about whether groups will work for what she wants to do?
