Beth,

The testing lab reported some problems with your Exam 2 (for TV Land) quiz earlier today.  The symtom was this: students would click on the quiz, and see a blank page--no buttom to attempt the quiz, or any information about when it was open, etc.

In point of fact, the pae wasn't blank: the usual information was simply shunted off to the right-hand side of the screen.  The reason is that the name of the quiz was too long, and that caused the text in the breadcrumbs trail (Winter 2007 > FN 225 (Naylor-META 30465 30469) > Quizzes > EXAM 2 FOR TV LAND...) to wrap.  When that happens, a problem with the page layout causes the actual content of the page to be moved over to the right; you have to scroll to see it.  As a result, students thought they were seeing a blank page.

There are a few of ways to deal with this problem.  

- The student can just scroll over to the right to see the content.  While this works, students don't actually KNOW beforehand that it works, so it's not the best solution.
- The student can make the size of the window bigger (in some cases).  That will give the breadcrumbs trail more room to print without wrapping.
- The student can shrink the font size, providing more room.

The other solution is to shorten the name of the quiz.  In the interests of helping your students, I went ahead and did this: the name of the quiz is now "EXAM 2 FOR TV LAND (in lab only)."  That will allow it to fit on most screens.  It's less informative, but I'm guessing it's more important that they be able to actually take the test.  :-)

We may want to take a look at your other quizzes, just in case some of the names are long, too.  Let me know if you'd like my help with this.
