Hi Dan,

Thanks so much for your complete and very clear response to my questions. In regards to my question about uploading the audio files, I am doing it from home. We are connected to the internet via Comcast cable. Is this a problem?

Thanks!
Beth

Hi Beth,

(1.) The "Announcements Forum" type of forum will act as you discribe (as in, you post a message to it ... and it sends a copy to the participants in the course).
The settings go use this are:
Login to Moodle
Turn Editing On
Go the the week you want to add the forum to
Choose "Forum" in the "Add an activity" drop down box
Using A "Standard Forum For General Use" - as the forum type
Then Make Sure The Setting "Force Everyone to Be Subscribed" - "Yes, Forever" (they will all be subscribed / receive the announcement post(s)).

(2.) Using an "Offline Assignment" type will take care of this. The steps to achive this are:
Login to Moodle
Turn Editing On
Go the the week you want to add the assignment to
Choose "Assignment" in the "Add an activity" drop down box
Under "Assignment Type" ... Select "Offline Activity" via the drop down box

(3.) Sounds like the file that you are re-uploading is being cached somewhere ... have you closed your web brower and cleared the cache / temporary internet files?

(4.) If the file is not larger than the 20 MB file size limit, then if you are getting a message that the file is timing out ... it sounds like there is an issue with the internet connection (as in, connection speed). Are you connecting from home or work? If at home, what type of connection is it (dial-up, wireless, cable modem - Comcast, DSL - Qwest, etc.)? If working from campus, are you connecting wirelessly or via a cable to the wired network?

Regards,

-Dan

Hi,

I have a few questions about Moodle.

1) I wanted to post an announcement and was under the impression that it would automatically be emailed to each student registered in the class. Is this possible and how would I do it?

2) I wanted to keep track of my grades on Moodle but all of my assessments are not online. I tried to add the assignment but could not seem to type in the grade earned. How do I do this?

3) I uploaded a document but realized that there was a mistake so I deleted the file from Moodle and tried to upload it again after the corrections were made. However, when I re-uploaded it, it was still the old document. I tried various things but the only way to remedy it was to change the file name before I uploaded it. I am guessing that this is a glitch? Any ideas?

4) Lastly, I am trying to upload a pretty large audio file, that is definitely not larger than the maximum allowed, but am having problems. It says it's sending the request but then times out. Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Beth Keech Kim
