Historical Censorship

The liberal-conservative spectrum explained in class last week is an important tool for analysis of historical topics and current events. 

Under the HTD Materials link, you will find the information you need for this assignment.  First, read the Defining Conservatism article carefully. Consider your own position on the spectrum and discuss the finer points of the article. On which points is it accurate? On which does is seem less accurate? Read pages 767-769 in your textbook on sexuality, and note the photo and trial mentioned.  Then, watch the 4 minute video clip on Sapho and consider the state of censorship (and conservatism) prevalent in the United States at that time.  Finally listen to the NPR audio on the Mann Act and watch the PMRC 8 minute video on Heavy Metal lyric censorship.
