Look at each of the four political cartoons which deal with the period of time following the Civil War. Without any help other than your own textbook, the video clips, and your fellow students, choose two cartoons. In your post, explain what you think the artist is trying to say. To support your position, be sure to include what you think the meanings are behind all of the significant items included in each drawing. By Monday, I'll post links to the "answers" on the HTD Materials page and you can check how well you and your group members did. In your replies to one another, note items of agreement, disagreement, and/or how you would have drawn things differently had you been the political cartoonist. What one persons finds to be funny, another may not. When comedians address such social issues as racism, the stakes are even higher. The audience in each of these video clips, laughs for each performer; however, you may or may not agree with the humor. Which two comedians have the greatest effect on you and why? Notice that I'm not asking you to simply say whether you think they were funny or not. Why did you find them funny, or not... offensive, or not. I believe that you can find some "truth" in each comedy routine. Because of the sensitive nature of this material, be extra careful when analyzing your thoughts. Do not make quick or flippant remarks; moreover, take greater care in communicating (writing) your ideas in your posts and replies.
